ORCID Reviewer Recognition

If you hold an ORCID account and have added this information to your Je-S account (https://je-s.rcuk.ac.uk/Handbook/pages/UpdatingAccountPersonalandExpe/UpdatingAccountPersonalandExpe.htm) you have the option to allow UKRI to push notifications of your participation in peer review to your public ORCID profile.

The information that will be displayed on your ORCID account will be the source (UKRI) and the year the review was completed. There will be no information pushed to ORCID by UKRI that will allow for the research and innovation proposal(s) that you review to be identified.

UKRI will only send information to ORCID when a usable review is submitted, and a funding decision has been made on the proposal. Each Research Council publishes information about its peer review process and these can be found using the links below:

Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC)

Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC)

Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC)

Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC)

Medical Research Council (MRC)

Natural Environment Research Council (NERC)

Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC)

You are able to manage when these notifications are enabled through your Je-S account (turn on and turn off). You will be prompted via Je-S yearly to confirm / deny your consent.

Further information can be found at https://www.ukri.org/apply-for-funding/how-we-make-decisions/guidance-for-orcid-reviewer-recognition/

An ORCID Consent Control page can be accessed via the left hand navigation menu under your account.

Clicking on this link will show the following page:

By default this page will show the ‘No’ option if you (the user) has never saved your choice before. Otherwise it will show the choice that you have previously saved.

The page will show the last time the consent was saved, if the user has ever saved the page.

A history of the users consent choice will be saved in the Je-S database.

If the user changes their consent from ‘Yes’ to ‘No’ then this action does not delete any Peer Reviews on the ORCID site. Instead it simply prevents any Peer Reviews that they subsequently submit on Je-S from getting pushed to ORCID. You can request the deletion of peer review credits in ORCID at anytime by emailing the Je-S helpdesk JeSHelp@je-s.ukri.org. Please note it can take up to 30 days to action any deletion requests in the system.

If the user changes their consent from ‘No’ to ‘Yes’ after completing a review, then this action will not push a review credit to ORCID, as consent is required prior to submitting a review to UKRI. Instead it simply allows any Peer Reviews that they subsequently submit on Je-S getting pushed to ORCID.

ORCID consent is valid for 12 months. At the end of this period, you will be promoted to confirm your preference on Je-S again when you next login to Je-S.
