Describe the proposed project in a manner suitable for a specialist reader. This summary will be made publicly available if the proposal is funded.

Edit Proposed Project Details

Provide a brief non-technical summary of the proposed project for a non-specialist reader.

As well as providing a brief summary of the proposed project it is important that you clearly demonstrate what the benefits of the collaboration will be for both the industrial company and the academic department. A separate paragraph for each is considered ideal.

MRC - Specific Requirements

Project Summary

Describe the proposed project in a manner suitable for a non-specialist reader. This summary may be made publicly available if the proposal is funded. [MRC specified maximum 1000 characters – see call guidance note]

Proposed Project Details

Provide a brief summary of the relevance of the proposed project to MRC’s remit taking into account the current MRC Strategic Plan, Delivery Plan and MRC Strategic Skills Priorities as detailed in the call guidance note. [MRC specified maximum 2000 characters – see call guidance note]

Why does the proposed project need both partners? Provide the Unique Selling Points of the collaboration. How will collaboration benefit the proposed project? Give details of any previous collaboration between the academic and non-academic/company partners and whether and how this forms a basis for the proposed project. Provide details of the success of any previous Industrial CASE awards that the collaboration has received. What did the student(s) do after completing their PhD? How did the awarding of a studentship benefit the academic and industry partners? [MRC specified maximum 2000 characters – see call guidance note]

NERC - Specific Requirements

Directed Research Studentship

A small summary of the Case for Support should be provided in this field.

A separate case for support MUST be submitted as an attachment to provide more details on the studentship project and training aspects and include a description of the proposed research and details of the research training. This MUST be a maximum of 2 pages of A4. Any associated research grants should be mentioned with reference numbers.

Please ensure that all pages in any attachment accompanying an application are sequentially numbered.

Industrial CASE Studentship

Please provide a succinct summary of the proposed project in a manner suitable for a non-specialist reader. This summary will be made publicly available if the proposal is funded. Please ensure that your proposed project is within remit prior to submission.

Please also include details of your collaborating partner(s).

This summary should be considered as the 'abstract' for your proposal, with further detail provided in the case of support form.

Centres for Doctoral Training

A case for support MUST be submitted as an attachment to provide more details on the CDT. This MUST be a maximum of 14 sides of A4. The case for support should be used to justify and evidence the proposal using the following headings:

Please include details of your collaborating partner.

This summary should be considered as the ‘abstract’ for your proposal. Further details should be provided in the Case for Support form.
