Collaborative Doctoral Awards

Research Organisation

This should be the HEI and department in which the PI is based. If successful this will be the organisation responsible for administering the grant.

Doctoral Training Partnerships

Lead Research Organisation

The organisation that is responsible for submitting the application on behalf of the consortium partners.

 

Collaborating Organisation

The other research organisations who form the consortium. An Organisation should not be listed more than once. Note that only one Department per Organisation should be listed. Please refer to council call guidance for specific instruction.

This is the applicants UK home Research Organisation and department.

Placement Organisations

Applicants should indicate their chosen IPS institution by ticking the corresponding box. ESRC candidates are eligible to apply to The Library of Congress, but not the other IPS institutions. AHRC candidates may apply to more than one IPS institution in this round, but they must make a separate, distinct and non-concurrent application for each institution.

Smithsonian applicants MUST include the specific Smithsonian institution to which they are applying in the first sentence in their 'Applicant Statement' along with their proposed dates.

If the applicant is applying to more than one IPS institution, the applicant's supervisor/mentor/Head of Department etc., must ensure that their supporting statement for each application is distinct.

Research Organisation

Doctoral Training Partnerships

Complete details of the lead organisation and department of the individual leading the proposal and named on the Portfolio Agreement as responsible.

Industrial CASE Scheme

Whoever is acting as the lead organisation (i.e. the industrial company or the academic institution) should be identified here. This organisation is responsible for the submission of the proposal.

Industrial CASE Partnership Scheme

Complete details of the lead organisation (i.e the company that is submitting the proposal).

Head of Department

Doctoral Training Partnerships

Complete details of the individual leading the proposal and named on the Portfolio Agreement as responsible.

ESRC – Specific Requirements

Organisation

This should be the lead organisation and department of the person leading the proposal and named as the Director for the ESRC Doctoral Training Partnerships/ Centres for Doctoral Training calls.  If successful this will be the organisation responsible for administering the grant.

For proposals that involve collaborating with other research organisations, details for each collaborating research organisation must be provided. An Organisation should not be listed more than once. MRC - Specific Requirements

Research Organisation

NERC - Specific Requirements

Directed Research Studentship

The Organisation may be a University or Research Centre (where applicable to the scheme) and the person selected as the Head of Department may be the Head of Department, School or Director of Research Centre, as applicable.

For studentships based at Research Centres, you can select the Degree-Awarding Organisation now, if you know it. This is an optional field.

Collaborating Organisation can be chosen by using the search facility or using 'Add New Organisation' this is an optional field. Relevant supervisor details will be entered in a later screen. An Organisation should not be listed more than once. Note that only one Department per Organisation should be listed. Please refer to council call guidance for specific instruction.

Under Project Partners, add New Project partner and complete details of any CASE partners and other significant (non-academic) collaborations. Where applicable, select the Organisation and Department. Tick box if they are the main project or CASE partner. Tick the box if a formal agreement has been signed. NERC would encourage you to set up a formal agreement with CASE partners, but a formal agreement is not compulsory.  You should describe the work to be carried out at the CASE/Project Partner and also the supervisory arrangements and what specific training and/or input will be provided to the studentship. NERC CASE Partners have to provide a minimum of £1000 per year towards the students' maintenance. Please also detail other contributions, in cash and in kind (towards travel costs, facilities etc).

NERC no longer requires signatures from the Project/CASE Partner with electronic submission. In submitting the application to NERC, the research organisations are confirming that all named supervisors and organisations are committed to the project.

Industrial CASE Studentship

The lead organisation is the academic institution and is responsible for the submission of the proposal.

Please enter the department within which the project will be based.

Doctoral Training Partnership

This is the organisation that will receive the funding for the DTP from NERC, and will be the main point of contact between the two bodies. The organisation must be eligible for NERC funding under normal NERC responsive mode rules. This may be a University or Research Centre.

Each DTP should submit a ‘DTP Partner Details Form’ as an additional attachment. Applicants should use the form to provide information on the role of each partner within the DTP. A completed ‘DTP Partner: Support Form’ for each DTP Partner should also be submitted as an additional attachment. This should be signed by the VC (or equivalent) for each Partner.

STFC - Specific Requirements

Industrial CASE/CASE-Plus Studentships

Research Organisation

Organisations eligible to receive STFC grant funding and those independent research organisations approved as eligible to hold grants, may act as the academic partner.

Non-University academic-related partners would need to host the studentship in conjunction with the University where the student would be registered.

Other UK-based organisations (including UK subsidiaries of foreign firms) may act as the non-academic partner if they can provide students with distinctive research training and experience not available in an academic setting.  In exceptional cases, organisations based overseas may be eligible; however they must have an established UK-based research and/or production capability and be able to provide the student with an opportunity to gain skills not currently available in the UK.
