Doctoral Training Grants

Training Grants (TGs) provide funding for the training of research students, leading to the award of a recognised qualification. They are paid by a Research Council to a Research Organisation. Most of the Research Councils base their management of training grants on a single set of terms and conditions, which can be found at https://www.ukri.org/funding/information-for-award-holders/grant-terms-and-conditions/ Funds can be in the form of Doctoral Training Grants (DTGs) or Masters Training Grants (MTGs).

As a DTG lasts for several years, a research organisation may have more than one DTG running at once. It is the combination of these grants that make up the Doctoral Training Account (DTA).
